Back in ol’ Bedfordshire, this has to be one of my favourite places to visit. These gorgeous gardens are littered with adorable bridges fording singing streams and quaint garden houses. It’s the perfect place to while away a few hours wandering around and admiring the many features of these gardens.
I last visited some time ago, but the gardens have recently undergone a huge renovation and are re-opening on the 31st July. So if you are around Bedford this summer, head down and take a look.
The gardens are based on the Shuttleworth estate, which also shows some excellent air displays and possesses a great museum dedicated to flight.
Spring and are the ultimate times to visit; the gardens boast a fantastic and eye-arresting array of flowers, which look at their absolute best in some summer sunshine. The trees are also lent extra magnificence when they are burdened with green leaves. However, a bright autumn day, or a day with fresh snow, would probably look almost as good. I am hoping to time a visit with some snow at some point, because I bet all the trees and cottages look gorgeous robed in white.
As you are wondering round, keep an eye out for peacocks strutting across the lawns. They add yet another splash of colour to these beautiful gardens.
Here are some photos of my last visit. I can’t wait to go back and see the renovations.
